The Concept

Robocon, short for Robotic Contest, is an interesting game- cum- intellectual exercise for budding engineers and their enthusiastic instructors, determined to innovate and create machines for producing desired results. Participation in this activity is an end-to-end competitive experience from concept design of a system of robots programmed to perform according to rules of the game played on a high precision technical Contest Area and to score a victory beating the competitors; all this according to a Theme declared by the Host Country. International Robocons are mainly sponsored by Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) which includes Doordarshan (Prasarbharati) of India as a member which has been organizing all activities in India for last five years with collaboration with MIT Academy of Engineering (MIT AOE) Pune, India.

Recent Competitions

The International Robocon-2012 was held in Hong kong on 19th August 2012 where 17 Engineering Colleges from 16 countries participated. The Theme for Robocon-2012 declared by Hong kong was “Peng On Dai Gat”. The International Robocon-2011 was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 28^th August 2011 where 19 Engineering Colleges from 18 countries participated. The Theme for Robocon-2011 declared by Thailand was Krathong, Lighting Happiness with Friendship. The International Robocon-2010 was held in Cairo, Egypt on 22^nd September 2010 where 18 Engineering Colleges from 17 countries participated. The Theme for Robocon2010 declared by Egypt was Robo-Pharaohs Build Pyramids. The International Robocon-2009 was held in Tokyo, Japan on 22^nd August 2009 with the Theme of Kago, the traditional Japanese palanquin, carried by human beings replaced by robots. The winners were a team from China who completed the task consistently in 18 seconds. The International Robocon-2008 was held in MIT, Pune on 31^st August 2008, where 17 Engineering Colleges from 16 countries participated. The Theme for Robocon2008 declared by India was Govinda, a traditional Indian Deity who used to play earthly games by capturing Butter/Cheese from heads of Gopis - interestingly animated on the field in MIT and colorfully broadcasted by Doordarshan and other membersof ABU across the world.

Next Robocon-2013

The next International Robocon-2013 is scheduled to be held in Vietnam , with the Theme of "The Green Earth". The details for the Contest are available on http://aburobocon2013.vtv.gov.vn To decide India’s participation in the International event at Vietnam, on 18^th August 2013, Doordarshan-MIT AOE is organizing the National Robocon-2013 on Thursday 7^th to 9^th March 2013.
