The ABU Robocon flag handed over from VTV to DD-MIT Finally the day arrived for India, when the Flag of the ABU Robocon was handed over from the Vice President of VTV, Dr Tran Dan Tuan to DDI & MIT. The flag was gracefully received by Mrs.Aparna Vaish (DDI) and Prof. (Dr.) Vishwanath Karad (MIT). This was followed by a speech by Mrs. Vaish and Prof. Karad. After the presentation of Pune Robocon theme & rules, DDI-MIT was officially declared as the host of ABU Robocon India 2008. Winner of ABU Robocon 2007: Xi'an Jiaotong University, China The 6th ABU Robocon 2007 Hanoi was successfully held in the capital city of Vietnam, Hanoi on Sunday, 26th August 2007. 19 teams from 18 countries/regions took part in this annual robotic competition for the university students in the Asia-Pacific region. Winner: Xi'an Jiaotong University, China. China's Xi'an Jiaotong University emerged winners of the 6th ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) which was held at the Quan Ngua Sports Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam on Sunday, 26 August 2007. The Chinese team defeated the Indonesians in the final match. This is the first time a team from China has won the annual competition, which began in 2002. Vietnam, a three-time winner of the ABU Robocon in the past as well as winner of last year's contest, failed to defend the title this time, despite having home soil advantage and sending in two teams. Nineteen teams from 18 countries and regions in Asia-Pacific participated in the event, which showcased the creativity and innovativeness of students in designing robots. Approximately 2,700 spectators gathered at the contest, including a delegation from Africa for the first time. A total of 13 university professors, students and government officials from Kenya observed the ABU Robocon to enable them to plan a similar contest in Africa in the future. |
